Programmes offered

Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM)

Every year IIMB admits about 180 candidates for its Post Graduate Programme in

Management (PGP). Admissions to the PGP are made through two channels, one for the domestic candidates and the other for overseas candidates. The admission requirements and application processes for each channel are different.

PGSEM

This program has become very popular amongst the IT professionals in the southern part of India - attracting the best of talent interested in pursuing a premium management post graduation.

Post-Graduate Program in Software Enterprise Management(PGSEM)

The Post-Graduate Program in Software Enterprise Management is an executive general management education program designed for the specific needs of professionals working in the software and information technology industry in India . As part of its drive to foster Excellence through Partnerships, IIMB launched the PGSEM in the year 1998 at its Bangalore campus. With more than ten years of experience running and fine-tuning the program to cater to the changing needs of the industry, the program is now available simultaneously to participants at Bangalore and Chennai. The curriculum is continuously reviewed and updated based on a thorough review of the program and the changing demands of the industry.

The program is run under the aegis of the Center for Software and Information Technology Management (CSITM). The CEOs and/or top executives of companies that have provided endowment and support to the CSITM (referred to as partner companies) are on the advisory board of the CSITM to ensure that the program is in tune with the needs of the industry. The partner companies are Infosys Technologies Ltd., Intel Technologies India Pvt Ltd., Motorola India Electronics Pvt. Ltd., Oracle India Pvt. Ltd., Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd., Sun Micro Systems India Pvt. Ltd. and Wipro Technologies Ltd.

The PGSEM endeavors to provide the most current executive general management education to middle and senior professionals of the software and information technology industry who seek to pursue a career in management. The program aims to transform professionals with strong technical knowledge to business leaders with equally strong management knowledge and a global perspective. IIMB is proud to have partnered the Indian software and information technology industry on its journey to becoming a dominant force in the global market.
Several distinctive features of the program are designed to meet the special needs of the participants of this program, while maintaining the credit requirements and rigor of the regular program. The program has been designed such that a participant can graduate with the diploma at the end of two and a half academic years, while continuing to work at his/her regular place of employment. Each academic year is subdivided into four quarters of eleven weeks each. The regular course load in a quarter is three courses of three credits each. Each three-credit course consists of 30 hours of classroom contact. Participants normally have 9 hours of classroom contact per week, with classes scheduled on Friday mornings and Saturdays. In special cases, students are allowed to increase their load by taking courses they have missed/failed in earlier quarters, or by undertaking projects in addition to regular classes.

The modular design of the program allows participants to tailor (within certain parameters) the sequence of courses. After completion of the first year, participants have the flexibility to be away from the program for one or more quarters if necessitated by work-related assignments. This would, however, lead to a situation where a participant will take longer than three academic years to complete the program. Each participant is required to complete the stipulated credits of the program within a maximum of six academic years.

The PGSEM has been structured around ten broad themes. Each theme consists of a set of core courses, which every participant is expected to take as part of the requirements of the diploma, and some electives. The core courses are distributed in the four quarters of the first year. Participants are expected to take electives for the remaining credits during the next six quarters. In addition to the core and elective courses, participants are required to do a compulsory 3-credit individual project on any industry of interest in order to gain domain experience. They can also do an additional 3-credit project course.

Participants of the PGSEM , with the approval of their employers, can avail of exchange opportunities with the universities with which IIMB has exchange arrangements. In addition, participants can take courses in top universities when they are posted outside the country, and have the credits transferred to the PGSEM .

PGSEM in Chennai

The PGSEM has been offered at the IIMB Campus in Bangalore since 1998. In cooperation with the partner companies Intel Technologies India Pvt Ltd., Motorola India Electronics Pvt. Ltd., Oracle India Pvt. Ltd., Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd., Sun Micro Systems India Pvt. Ltd. and Wipro Technologies Ltd., the program has achieved considerable maturity. With the support of Infosys Technologies Limited, the PGSEM in Chennai has been offered from the academic year 2005-2006, to make PGSEM accessible to a larger group of software and information technology professionals. The program is open to candidates from any company, but will be offered at the Mahindra City campus of Infosys Technologies Limited. The program in Chennai is the same as that offered in Bangalore .
The classes in Chennai are conducted in synchronous mode using two-way video and audio along with auxiliary technologies supporting rich interaction between the faculty member and students in Chennai and Bangalore . Faculty also travels to Chennai every few weeks to conduct live classes, and facilitate out of class interactions.
IIMB will have an office in Chennai to oversee all administrative issues. Participants in Chennai are provided access to the IIMB intranet from terminals in campus in Chennai. They also have IP protected access to online subscriptions of IIMB Library, and physical access to a mini-library equipped with books relevant to the PGSEM in Chennai. The participants have controlled access to shared facilities such cafeteria and parking facilities etc.
Since the program is offered in Bangalore and Chennai, participants have greater mobility between the two cities. While they will be required to complete their core courses at the location to which they have been admitted, they are free to take their electives in either of the centers depending on their convenience (within capacity constraints).

Admission procedure to PGSEM

Candidates will be short-listed based on the CAT or GMAT scores, or the scores of a separate PGSEM Test that will be conducted in Bangalore and Chennai on March 02, 2008. Interviews will be conducted for the short-listed candidates both in Bangalore and Chennai.
