National
Institute of Technology Hamirpur is one of the twenty NITs of
the country, established in 1986 as Regional Engineering College, as a
joint and cooperative enterprise of the Govt. of India and Govt. of Himachal
Pradesh. The goals of the institute as embodied in the logo are truly
remarkable in their scope of vision. The college provide Undergraduate,
Postgraduate and Doctorate Education in Engineering, Sciences & Humanities;
fostering the spirit of national integration among the students, a close
interaction with industry and a strong emphasis on research, both basic
and applied. It has been given the status of Deemed University.
Campus
The campus is situated at Anu in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh
and is 4 Kms from main bus stand of Hamirpur on Hamirpur – Toni
Devi road. The city of Hamirpur is well connected with the rest of the
country by road. The nearest broad gauge rail head is at Una (Himachal
Pradesh) which is 80 Kms from Hamirpur. The campus has a picturesque surrounding
facing snow clad Dhauladhar mountain ranges. Lush green pine trees surround
it. The campus is well laid with roads, electric installations, water
supply, underground drainage, etc. The place has healthy climate with
moderate temperature ranging from 1oC to 38oC with an altitude of 900
meters.

Training & Placement department was established in this institute
in the year 1995. Since then lots of activities are being conducted within
the gambit of this department for the benefit of students and faculty.
Salient
Features about campus placement:
• Every year, more than 30 companies of repute including MNC's visit
NIT Hamirpur.
• More than 85% of total students placed for 2007 batch.
• Recruitment for 2008 batch will start from July, 2007.
This
department is arranging placement interviews/written tests for various
companies and helping students to get jobs in different organizations.
The final selection is subject to fulfilling the terms and conditions
mentioned in the offer letters issued by the companies. We are also getting
a continuous feedback from the industry about our students recruited during
the previous years through campus recruitment. Our students are doing
very well in these organizations. Because of improved infrastructure and
facilities in the institute during the last couple of years and praiseworthy
performance of our passed out students in the industrial organizations
and our continuous persuasion, many companies of repute are showing their
interest to visit our institute on the very first day of campus recruitment
schedule.
Our institute has decided to start the concept of “Dream Job Option”
for students once more than 80% students of a batch are placed. Students
will be asked to give their choice for any one of the dream job companies
interested to visit our campus for 2nd round (i.e. one chance to appear
in the company of their choice). However, joining of student's selected
by an organisation / company during campus interviews depends upon the
student's concerned.
Every year, the department organizes programmes for the benefit of B.Tech.
/ B.Arch. / M.Tech. students and advises them in:
1. Preparation of Biodata.
2. Preparing for interviews.
3. How to face the interviews.
4. Preparation for Group Discussion.
5. Choosing a career.
Such
programmes are organized to help the students to compete with confidence
in the job market.
